We know connecting your email feels like a big step. Here's exactly what we do, what we don't do, and why you can trust us with your data.
Can you read my personal emails?
No. Technically impossible. We use Gmail's restricted API scopes that only allow reading from specific sender domains we specify (amazon.com, walmart.com, etc.). Google enforces this at the API level — our software literally cannot see anything else. Your personal emails, work conversations, bank statements, and everything else are completely invisible to us.
Do you store my emails?
No. We extract exactly 4 data points from each receipt — product, price, retailer, and date — and immediately discard the email content. The raw email is never saved, cached, or stored anywhere on our systems.
What if you get hacked?
We've designed our architecture to minimize damage even in a worst-case scenario:
We don't store passwords — we use OAuth, so we never have your password to begin with.
We don't store email content — only extracted data points (product names, prices).
We encrypt everything at rest — all extracted data is protected with 256-bit AES encryption.
Bottom line: A hacker would get product names and prices. Not your emails, not your password, not your personal information.

How do I disconnect?
You can disconnect your email and delete all your data at any time. It takes about 10 seconds:
- Log in to your SaveSmarter.Life dashboard
- Tap Settings in the top bar
- Scroll to Disconnect Account and tap "Disconnect and Delete My Data"
- Confirm in the popup — your OAuth access is revoked and all data is permanently deleted
You can also revoke access directly from your email provider's settings — no need to even log into SaveSmarter.Life:

Do you sell my data?
No. Never. We make money through affiliate commissions when you choose to buy through our recommended links. That's it. Your data never leaves our systems, is never shared with third parties, and is never used for advertising. You are not the product — our savings recommendations are.
